Getting started becoming a radiology technician only takes about two years of schooling which leads to an AS or AAS degree. A high school diploma or GED is needed to gain acceptance into radiology technician schools and to gain your certificate. There are hundreds of on-campus and many online programs in radiology technology.

1 Miami Florida Dade College

At Miami Dade College, an Associate in Applied Science degree in radiography is offered to prospective students. The program is two years long and students must earn 77 credits in order to graduate. It is a full-time program that is extremely demanding and students are encouraged not to work while in school.
In addition to coursework, students must complete a clinical component that involves performing clinical hours at a facility in Miami Dade County. Students are required to pass a background check and a health screening in order to enter the clinical portion of the program.

2 Ohio State University-Main Campus

Located in Columbus, Ohio, the Radiologic Sciences and Therapy program at Ohio State University is a four-year degree program that offers students small classes and individualized attention from experienced faculty.
The first two years of the program consist of general education classes and prerequisites, while the last two years train students in the field of radiology through coursework and clinicals. Admission to the program is highly competitive and only a limited number of students are admitted each year.

3 Houston Texas Community College

The Associate in Applied Science in Radiography at Houston Community College Houston, TX  is two-year program and is accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology.
The program consists of six semesters. The first year is spent taking general education classes and prerequisites such as Anatomy and Physiology. The first and second year both include clinical training for students, as well as radiology coursework. 4 University of Minnesota- Twin Cities

The University of Minnesota- Twin Cities offers a Bachelor of Science in Health Professions (BSHP) Radiography Track. This program is four years in duration and consists of coursework and an extensive clinical training program at the Mayo Clinic.
The process to gain admission to the program requires at least a 2.5 GPA in prerequisite courses, an interview, an entrance essay, and experience in patient care.

5 Northern Virginia Community College

The Associate in Applied Science in radiography program at Northern Virginia Community College is a two-year degree program that is made up of five semesters of coursework and clinicals. The program is 72 credit hours in length, 14 of which are elective hours.
In order to gain acceptance into this radiology technician school, prospective students must complete all prerequisite coursework with at least a B, complete a clinical observation, and must be of good moral character.

6 Lone Star College System

The Medical Radiologic Technology AAS degree at Lone Star State College is a two year program that admits students on a competitive basis who must have at least a 2.0 GPA from high school or college, complete prerequisite coursework with a grade of C or higher, and show proof of competency in college level math, reading, and writing.
The first and second years of the Medical Radiologic Technology degree combine radiography courses, general education classes, and clinical hours.

7 Tarrant County College District

The Radiology Technology degree is a two-year program with classes held during the daytime hours. The program emphasizes critical thinking skills, clinical ability, professionalism, and appropriate communication skills in academic and professional settings.
Students must perform clinical rotations in addition to coursework. In order to graduate, students must receive a C or better in all coursework or they will need to repeat the course. Admission to the program is competitive.

8 Austin Community College

The radiography program at Austin Community College is a limited entry degree program that offers students the opportunity to gain knowledge and experience through coursework and clinicals. Students also study general education subjects while enrolled in the program.
The program is designed to prepare students to work under a radiologist and other types of physicians. After completing all of the program requirements, students can take the national credentialing exam and apply for state certification.

9 Valencia Community College

Valencia Community College’s Radiology degree is a limited access degree program. Applicants to the program must complete prerequisite courses and earn a C or higher, pass college entrance exams, and have a GPA of at least 2.5 in college.
The program has stringent requirements regarding course sequence. Because of this, students must receive at least a C in each class. If a student fails to obtain at least a C, he or she will have to leave the program and will not be allowed to continue.

10 Broward College

Established in the 1960s, Broward College’s Radiography program offers students the opportunity to study radiography performing clinicals in local medical facilities, online, and in lab work. The program is full time, Monday through Friday from 8-4.
The radiography degree takes 22 months to complete. A typical weekly schedule for students in the program involves three days of classes and two days of clinicals in the first year and three days of clinicals and two days of classes during the second year.
